Anthony Cheney - Hunter KS

Anthony Tony Wayne Cheney was born at home in Grant Twp. Lincoln County, KS to Eka (Zachgo) and Wayne Cheney July 24, 1918. He attended Pottersburg School, then worked on the farm for his Uncle Joe Cheney before going into the Army in October, 1941. He proudly served with the 9th Infantry Division as a gun crew chief in Africa and Sicily. He trained for the Normandy Invasion in England and participated in that Campaign. He was discharged in May, 1945 after being wounded in Belgium. He was a lifetime member of the Hunter American Legion Post #77 and the Disabled American Veterans. He married Phyllis Spence in Emporia, KS, on November 20, 1945. She survives, as well as: one son, Larry (Karen), Republic, KS; three daughters, Linda Streit, Tipton, KS, Nancy Wiles (Bob), Hunter, KS, Diana Thummel, Overland Park, KS; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and brother Glen of Ash Grove, KS. He was preceded in death by: his parents in 1974 and 1984; one brother, Harold in 2001; and two sisters, Mildred in 2003 and Margaret in 2010. Visitation - Hall Chapel Friday, November 4, 1-7:00 P.M., with family present 5-7:00 P.M. Service - Hall Chapel on Saturday, November 5 at 2:00 P.M. with interment following in Spillman Cemetery, rural Lincoln County. Memorials may be made to Solomon Valley Hospice or Hunter American Legion Post #77.
