Hylis Chard - Lincoln KS
11/30/1927 - 5/24/2011
Hylis Wayne Chard was born on November 30, 1927, to Henry Ambrose and Clara Elvira (Howard) Chard in Lincoln, KS.
He died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Salina, KS. Left behind to mourn are his brother Robert Chard of Manhattan, KS, sisters Bina Jean Lebien and Neola Hisle, both of Lincoln, KS, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Olan, Golden and Howard Chard, and sisters Jennie Mason and Theora Doll.
As a young boy Hylis obviously looked up to his older sister, Neola, as he would often be waiting for her at the end of the sidewalk as her school day ended at Lincoln High School. Making friends came quite easily to him and, because he had no children of his own, he was able to concentrate more on nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids, and always had comic books available to keep them amused. He had an excellent memory and would frequently ask about friends' children and grandchildren. Hylis was a devoted son who never missed a day feeding supper to his mother once she became a resident of the nursing home. Although he enjoyed all holidays, Christmas was his favorite and he had a special holiday sweatshirt he wore each year. He always had the weather channel on and was able to keep you posted on current weather conditions. He was a kind, gentle soul and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
