Phyllis Ratcliff - Lincoln KS
2/6/1929 - 3/11/2011
Phyllis Ann Farrington Ratcliff, 82, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 in Lincoln, KS.
She was born to Nolan Lake Farrington and Wava Armsbury Farrington on 6 February 1929 in Osborne County on the Farrington farmstead. Her grandparents were Emery C. and Louisa (Chard) Farrington and Ira and Florence (Rogers) Armsbury. Phyllis had one sister, LaDonna L. Burke.
She attended Lucas-Luray primary schools. The family moved to Lincoln in 1936. Phyllis worked at IRA's lunch and Roach Theater while in high school. After graduation she went to beauty school and then owned and operated a shop in Lincoln until she married Billy Dean Ratcliff in October 1949. Their marriage produced four children: Claudia Marshall, Robin R. Ratcliff, Rodney Dean Ratcliff, and James A Ratcliff.
She and her husband followed his military career after their marriage and moved to many new and exciting places until he retired in October 1968.
At retirement they settled in Salina where she worked at the A&G cafe, Tony's Pizza, and Wendy's until her retirement. At this time of their lives they felt that Texas would be more comfortable and spent several years there until returning to Salina.
She enjoyed walking in her later years and would walk ten to fifteen miles in a day quite often just for the fun of it. In addition she roller-skated at Roll-Mor on South Fifth. Unbeknownst to her parents, she bought her first bicycle on payments while in junior high school.
Her health finally got the best of her in 2005, when she moved to Kenward View for a year and then finally to Lincoln Park Manor. She was a pleasant and cheerful resident and brought many delights to the people working there; she was crowned Queen of Hearts on February 14, 2007 at Lincoln Park Manor.
Phyllis died on 11 March 2011 in Lincoln. She leaves to mourn, in addition to the children, nine grandchildren: Christopher James Humphries, Jason Alan Ratcliff, Elizabeth Marie Ratcliff, Dalton Shane Marshall, Dion Shannon Marshall, Clayton Kadel, April (Clayton) Kadel, Jeremy Slattery, Danell Dalise Andres, and Dalisa Ren Maxton; twenty-three great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Cierra, Kiersten, Trevor, Chelsey, Justice, Kyra, Kylie, Kaitlyn, Trenton, Kaleb, Sheyanne, Sydney, Cooper, Aidan, Victoria, Isabell, Natalie, Aaron, Logan, Landon, Courtney, and Kimberlyn; and one great-great-grandson Kayden.
