Cathy Bolte - Lincoln KS
5/10/1942 - 3/3/2011
Helen Catherine (Leaton) Bolte, better known as Cathy to her childhood friends, grew up in a small house in Salina, Kansas with her mother, father and two brothers, Jim and George. She attended Oakdale Elementary School, Roosevelt-Lincoln Junior High School, and she graduated from Salina High School in 1960. Cathy was a good student. She joined band in high school and played the clarinet. One of her best friends all through school lived just about three to four blocks from her. Cathy would walk to Kaye's house every morning and be there before Kaye was even dressed. She helped Kaye decide what to wear and they would walk on to Oakdale. Her friends will always remember Cathy's endearing giggle.
Cathy went on to Kearney State Teacher's College and graduated with a teaching degree. While attending college she met her lifelong spouse Johnny Bolte. They were married in May, 1965. Together they had four children: Joseph, Genette, Lyle and Mary. They were blessed with seven grandchildren: Ryan, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Molly, Taylor and Claire. Cathy joins Jordan in heaven.
Cathy had a passion for teaching. She received a Master's Degree in Special Education from Emporia State University. She taught special education in Kansas, California, and Arizona. God blessed her with incredible patience and she found great joy and satisfaction in helping children achieve academic goals. She taught until she could no longer physically do the job.
Cathy and Johnny both enjoyed traveling in their RV to visit their children and grandchildren. Cathy enjoyed cooking and baking all of her life and especially enjoyed baking items with the grand kids when they visited. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting items for her children and grandchildren which they will keep and cherish forever. She also began sewing patriotic hats and other types of hats that were purchased by others and admired by many.
In December 2006, Johnny and Cathy moved back to Kansas from Arizona and made their home in Lincoln. The move allowed Cathy to be closer to her pulmonary hypertension specialist in Kansas City so that she could get the care that she needed. In December 2008 Cathy and Johnny took a road trip to Orlando, Florida to visit Disney World with members of the family. Spending time with family was very important to Cathy.
Cathy's family and friends will greatly miss her and will always remember her kind and humble spirit, love of her children, grandchildren, and husband Johnny, who so patiently and lovingly cared for her.
