Dee Gourley - Lincoln KS

Dee Duane Gourley, 84, of Lincoln, KS passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 in Beloit. He was born
April 12, 1926, in rural Lincoln County, the son of Jesse W. and Susan (Gingrich) Gourley.
A lifetime resident of Lincoln, he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. After high school, Dee
enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations on the USS Kula Gulf.
After being discharged from the Navy, Dee began working for the Ford dealership in Tescott in 1946.
On June 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sowers and to this union four children were
born-Larry, Terry, Nancy and Peggy.
In l955, Dee along with his two brothers, purchased the Ford dealership in Lincoln. Dee also farmed in the Westfall area. After 35 years, Dee retired as a Ford dealer, but continued to work as a salesman for several more years. Dee continued to farm, retiring in 2006.
In earlier years, Dee served on the school board and was a deacon at the Lincoln Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Lions Club, VFW, and the American Legion. Dee was very active in his community serving as a councilman for 6 years and as mayor for the City of Lincoln for 26 years. In l995 Dee was mayor when the power plant fire occurred. He was instrumental in getting the power plant back up and running for the city. This was a huge process of rebuilding, taking over three years.
Dee was a fair and helpful friend to many; numerous friends have shared stories with Dee's family about how he helped them out with different situations and also of the many good adventures they had shared with Dee. He loved his family, friends, and also a good fishing trip. It never took him long to get ready to head for the lake when someone mentioned fishing. He had a gentle spirit, but
could plant his feet when he felt he was right on a particular issue. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Mary Ann, his parents, two brothers, Keith and
Vance, and a sister, Helen.
Dee is survived by one sister, Violet Daleen of Wheaton, Illinois; two sons, Larry (Donalyn) Gourley,
Beloit; Terry (Rhonda) Gourley, Curtis, Nebraska; two daughters, Nancy Gourley of Salina and Peggy
Galloway of Wichita. He has six grandchildren: Chad Gourley, Manhattan, Eric Gourley of Taylorsville, Utah, Troy Gourley, Lawrence; Samantha Gourley, Osborne; Alyson Weber, Goddard and Jeff Galloway of Wichita.
He also has six great-grandchildren: Kaylen Gourley, Chelsie Grammer, Tyler and Chase Gourley, and
Brylee and Mason Weber.
Friends may call from 1 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, September 19 at the Hall Funeral Home, Lincoln where family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M..
Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Monday, September 20, 2010, at Hall Funeral Home with interment in the Lincoln Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the Lincoln
County Hospital or Solomon Valley Hospice.
