Mildred Behrens - Lincoln KS

At the age of 97, Mildred Marie Behrens passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Lincoln Park Manor in Lincoln, Kansas.
She was born September 5, 1922 to William and Amanda (Sundermann) Sieck at Garland, Nebraska. She was baptized on September 10th at Zion Lutheran Church in Garland. After attending Zion Lutheran elementary school for eight years, she was confirmed in April 1936.
Mildred attended Garland High School as a freshman, and she completed her high school education at Concordia High School, Seward, Nebraska. She continued her studies at Concordia Teachers College, Seward, where she earned her degree as an elementary school teacher. She taught Lutheran elementary schools in Tobias, Nebraska and St. Joseph, Michigan.
On September 1, 1946, she married Theodore (Ted) Schoenbeck. They lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Julesburg, Colorado. They were blessed with two children, Philip and Maxine. Following Ted’s accidental death in 1953, Mildred and children returned to Seward, where she worked in Public Relations at Concordia Teachers College.
On April 7, 1957, she married Roy Behrens who became a loving father to her two young children, whom he adopted in 1958. The Behrens family made their home in Lincoln, Kansas.
After spending many years as a homemaker, she returned to the workforce at a local insurance agency and later as an Avon sales representative.
She was a very active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, holding offices at the local, zone and district levels. She served as a 4-H leader; helped organize and maintained an active membership in a Parent-Teacher League for St. John Lutheran School; and served in other community and church activities.
Mildred and Roy spent 54 years together on their farm east of Lincoln before she became a resident of Lincoln Park Manor in 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her son Phil, her parents, her brother Leo Sieck, and her first husband Ted.
Family members celebrating her life are: Maxine and Del Ganske, Manhattan, KS, Brian Ganske, Hays, KS, Greta Ganske, Olathe, KS, nieces and nephews.
Other survivors include Travis (Cherie) Behrens; Amy (Sean) Wardell and children all of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Behrens Broken Bar Scholarship Fund at the Kansas State University Foundation, the Kansas District LWML Scholarship Fund, or the William Sieck Endowment Fund at Concordia University in care of Parsons Funeral Home – Hall Chapel, 111 E. Elm, Lincoln, KS 67455.
Mildred’s family would like to thank family and friends who kept in touch with her by phone, greeting cards, emails, and visits during her years at the Manor.
