Frances Jones - Lincoln KS
9/17/1913 - 4/15/2010

Frances May Fisher was born September 17, 1913 to Clarence H. and Flossie Applebee Fisher at Glen Elder, KS. She attended the High Prairie Grade School and graduated from Glen Elder High School. She married Lester "Red" Jones of Barnard March 17, 1935 at the Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, KS, with her sister Marie Porter and Lester's brother Delmont Jones as attendants. They renewed their vows while celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in March 1985 with Marie and Delmont in the Lincoln Presbyterian Church. They spent their years together on a farm near Lester's childhood home where they farmed and raised Hereford cattle until 1987. Lester and Frances also spent many years working with their custom combining operation following the wheat harvest from Texas to Canada. Lester and Frances had no children, but Frances cooked and cared for the many young combine crews that worked for Lester Red Jones Harvesting. Frances and Lester had a life-long interest in sports. In their younger years they organized and managed the Harmony neighborhood boys and girls baseball teams. As a result of their interest in the youth in the neighborhood and the local schools, Lester and Frances were publicly acknowledged for their loyal and faithful following of the local sports events. They were active members of the Lincoln Saddle Club for many years. A later favorite pastime was their membership and involvement in two area Polka Clubs, the Sunflower Polka Club of Holyrood and the Jolly Mixers of Salina. A special time in their lives was their role as god-parents of Glenda Stewart Wentworth of Edwards, Colorado. This event took place in the Lincoln Presbyterian Church in 1960. Glenda spent many summers helping Frances during the wheat harvest days. Frances and Lester always enjoyed traveling. They went to Hawaii in 1981 after retiring. They also made many trips to the East and West Coasts visiting relatives and friends and seeing the country. After a lengthy illness Lester died April 6, 1992. Frances sold the farm and moved to Lincoln in 1993. She moved to a suite in Assisted Living of Mid-America Health Care in November of 2000. She transferred to Mid-America Nursing Center in April of 2005. Frances passed away in Lincoln Park Manor April 15, 2010 at the age of 96. She was a member of the Lincoln Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, her parents Clarence and Flossie Fisher of Glen Elder, KS, two brothers, Carlton of Sterling, IL and Clarence, Jr. of Elizabethton, TN, a sister Marie Porter of Blackfoot, ID. Survivors include her god-daughter Glenda Stewart Wentworth of Edwards, CO. sisters-in-law Hazel Jones of Lincoln KS, and Clata Fisher of Elizabethton, TN, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, on Sunday, April 18, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 19, at 10:00 AM at Hall Chapel with interment at Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Barnard Lions Scholarship Fund.
