Lola Ann Howell - Lincoln KS

Lola Ann (Spear) Howell passed away peacefully at her residence in Overland Park, KS on May 30, 2017 at age 102. She was born May 25, 1915, in Lincoln County, KS, the 4th of 7 children of Roxton Roy and Ida May (Hobbs) Spear.
Lola married Elbert Booker Jones on January 2, 1932, in Bentonville, Arkansas. Following their divorce she married Arthur Wilson Howell, Sr., on June 20, 1934, in Salina, Kansas. After a few years in Anderson, Missouri, they returned to Lincoln County and farmed in Battle Creek Township where they raised their 8 children. Arthur died on July 29, 1969. She then moved into Lincoln and worked as a cook at the high school and at the local rest home. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, first at Prairie Grove and then Lincoln. After retiring she played the piano for services at the Lincoln and Beverly United Methodist churches for several years. For many years she volunteered in the Senior Center kitchen and helped deliver Meals on Wheels with her niece Wanda McHale.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Wilson Howell, Sr., her parents and siblings Frank Spear, Sam Spear, Ruby Jensen, Alma Hanneman, and Marie Whited; 4 children: Robert "Buck" Jones, Doyle Howell, Cheryl Lepisto, and Vaudene Field; daughters-in-law Janet Jones and Eula Mae Howell; and grandson Jeffrey Howell.
She is survived by her sister Pauline Brown, Lincoln, KS; children Arthur Howell, Jr.(Carol Bachofer), Brookville, KS; Frank and Nina (Pitchford) Howell, Ames, IA; Daryle and Margie (West) Howell, Gonzales, TX; Lyle and Lyn (Anderson) Howell, Shallotte, NC; daughter-in-law Julie Howell, Horton, KS; sons-in-law James Lepisto, Merriam, KS and Rex Field, Junction City, KS; 15 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 3 at Hall Chapel, with burial following in the Prairie Grove cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 2, from 1 to 7 PM at Hall Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Prairie Grove Cemetery.
