A. Virgil Christiansen - Salina KS

A. Virgil Christiansen, 103, formerly of Lincoln, KS, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in Salina, KS. An only child, he was born August 5, 1913, in Lincoln County, KS, to A.J. and Anna (Andersen) Christiansen. He then graduated from Lincoln High School in 1931 and lived most of his life in Lincoln County. He married Laurene Knerr on April 11, 1941. After her death on September 24, 1988, he married Myrna (Griffin) Brandenburg of Russell, Kansas, on January 13, 1990. They continued to reside in Lincoln until their move to Salina in 2007. Myrna passed away January 27, 2017.

Virgil was drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1941 (WW II) and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Lincoln Blue Lodge for over 70 years. He was also a member of the Isis Shrine (Legion of Honor), Salina Scottish Rite, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also loved to dance and attended Jolly Mixers in Salina until several years ago.

He was a member of the Denmark Lutheran Church, and also attended Lincoln United Methodist Church, and Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina.

Left to celebrate his life include: son, Alan (Sharon) Christiansen, of Blue Springs, MO; daughter, Jean Ann (Robert) Gedney, of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Erik Christiansen (significant other, Jennifer Balbo), Jon (Kelly) Gedney, Cheryl Gedney; great-grandchildren, Helen and Evelyn Gedney.

Visitation: 1-7:00 P.M. Sunday, May 21, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln. Family present 5-7:00 P.M.

Service: 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 22, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, with interment following in Lincoln City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Denmark Lutheran Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
