Roy Behrens - Lincoln KS

    After 89 years spent enjoying God's creation on earth, Roy Otto Behrens passed away on October 6, 2016.  
    Roy was born in Lincoln, Kansas, the son of Otto and Ida (Schwerdtfeger) Behrens, growing up on the farm and attending parochial school.
    He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict (1951-1954), serving aboard an experimental destroyer, the USS Sarsfield. He returned to Lincoln and joined his father on the family farm.
    In April 1957, he married Mildred Sieck Schoenbeck in Seward, Nebraska.  He was a devoted father to her children, Phil and Maxine, whom he adopted in 1958. The Behrens family lived east of Lincoln on a grain and livestock farm. Roy remained on that family farm throughout his life.
    Roy was a member of the Lincoln County Sheep and Wool Growers Association, a lifetime member of VFW Post 7928, and St. John Lutheran Church.
    For 14 years he provided transportation for USD 298 students and then the senior citizens driving the county bus for a couple of years. 
    Family members celebrating his life are: wife, Mildred, Lincoln, KS; daughter, Maxine (Del) Ganske, Manhattan, KS; grandchildren, Brian Ganske, Hays, KS, Greta Ganske, Olathe, KS; Josie, his cat; sister, Elda Mayfield, Derby, KS; brother, Floyd (Jan) Behrens, Seymour, IN; and nieces and nephews.  
    Other survivors include: Travis (Cherie) Behrens; Amy (Nathan) Baker and children, all of Florida.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, son, Phil, and sister, Wilma.
     Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20 from 1-7 pm at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, KS with family present from 5-7 pm.
A service celebrating his life will be Friday, October 21 at 10:30 am at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, KS, with private family interment.
    A luncheon will follow the funeral in the basement of the Lincoln Park Manor. 
    Memorials may be made in remembrance of Roy to either the Lutheran Hour or the Kansas State University Sheep Unit.
