Lanora Thomsen - Lincoln KS
6/29/1914 - 9/21/2016

Lanora Frieda Marie (Witte) Thomsen, 102, of Lincoln, KS, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016, in Hillsboro, KS. She was born June 29, 1914, to John F. and Lena (Oetting) Witte on a farm near Glendale, in Saline County.

She was a farm wife and homemaker, living most of her life on a farm near Shady Bend. Lanora was baptized at home on July 12, 1914. She was confirmed March 24, 1929. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for her entire life. Her confirmation verse was Revelations 2:10: "Be thou faithful until death and I will give thee a crown of life".

Lanora married Harold Thomsen on October 20, 1943, in Salina. They raised four daughters and one son together. They also cared for Harolds mother, Lena Thomsen, until her death in 1964. Harold passed away in 1984.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor. Her sons-in-law drooled over her apple pie. The aroma of home-baked bread greeted her family on Fridays and Saturdays. The coffee cake and cinnamon rolls rarely lasted until Sunday!

Like her sister, Alma, Lanora loved having chickens. Much to her daughters' embarrassment, the chickens left their calling cards on the sidewalk; and with boyfriends arriving, the sidewalk was swept and swept! But the chickens, garden, milk cows, and home-raised beef and pork were all greatly appreciated for feeding a growing family.

Lanora's faith also provided needed nourishment in her everyday life. She was a faithful Lutheran for her entire life and served humbly with her friends in the Ladies Aid for many years.

Her survivors include five children: Arlene Kleinschmidt, Hillsboro, Margaret (Charles) Haynes, Brandon, MS, Mary (Terry) Swisher, Manhattan, John (Allison) Thomsen, Lincoln, and Lana (Vance) Klager, Wichita. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren: Kelli (Lloyd) Walker, Holly (Camron) Erway, Jeff (Sarah) Kleinschmidt, Charles (Jennifer) Haynes III, Christine (Darryl) Lara, Corey (Heather) Swisher, Melissa (Sean) Fitzgerald, Kelsey and Christina Thomsen, Erin (Derek) Breid, Christopher, Kevin and Brian Klager, and Allisons daughters, Mauntell and Sophia Ford. Additional survivors are 15 great-grandchildren: Kara (Mark) Macy and Megan Walker; Zachary, Olivia, and Avery Erway; Ian, Isaac, Cooper, and Griffin Kleinschmidt; Will and Ben Haynes; Devyn Lara; and Molly, Kaley, and Emily Fitzgerald.

In addition to her husband, Harold, Lanora was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eldor Witte; sister, Alma Sundquist; and son-in-law, Robert Kleinschmidt.

Visitation: 4-7:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln.

Funeral: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with interment following in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Ladies Aid.
