Lincoln. Doris E. Byington 99, of Salina, KS, died Tuesday, 30 December, in Salina KS. She was born in Rural Osborne County on 19 November 1915, to Lorenzo Dow and Grace Lemmons (Yarnell). She grew up on the farm in the tri-county area. In her early years the family attended church in Lincoln County Kansas. The church and community was called Green Valley in the northwest part of the county. There was a school there also. During one summer storm, the church was struck by lightning and burned. Thereafter we had church in the school for some time.
Doris graduated from grade school in Osborne County, and graduated from high school in Lucas Kansas with the Class of 34.
She worked for twenty-six years for Army and Air Force Exchange Service, starting in Schilling Air Force Base and, when that closed, in March Air Force Base in California. She retired from AAFES there.
During these years, she did not attend church regularly; she started going to the First Church of God on a regular basis in Salina after retirement in 1979.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Ralph Edward Byington, and two sisters: Beulah Dengate and Neva Ensign
Left to celebrate her life are son Michael Heizer (Janice Lee) of Salina, daughter Betty Mae White of Salina, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
