Dr. William 'Willie' Knapp - Lincoln KS
10/10/1956 - 7/27/2014

William (Willie) L. Knapp, 57, was born October 10, 1956, in Kansas City, MO, to Bill and Lu (Barth) Knapp. After a year-long battle with cancer, Willie went home to be with his Lord on July 27, 2014, while surrounded by his family and friends.

Willie attended Catholic school as a youth and graduated from Lillis High School, KC, in 1974. After graduation, he attended UMKC and graduated with a B.S. in chemistry. Later Willie attended UMKC Dental School and graduated with his D.D.S. in 1982.

Willie met his future wife, Nancy (Gilles), while they were both working at the Kansas City Star. They later settled in Lincoln, KS, where Willie opened and operated his dental practice. During their 33-year marriage, they were blessed with four boys: James, David, Chuck and Tommy.

Being a very integral part of the Lincoln community, Willie was an active member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Lincoln County Kids Federation Wrestling, and Boy Scout Troop 90.

Willies passion in life was serving his Church and his work as scout master of his Boy Scout troop, which included several trips to Philmont, New Mexico. Yet his greatest pride came from his love for his family, his four boys and his wife Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lu.

Left to celebrate his life include: his wife, Nancy (Gilles) Knapp of the home; his father, Bill, of Overland Park, KS; sons James Knapp of Salina, KS, David Knapp of Prairie Village, KS, Charles Knapp and Thomas Knapp, both of Lincoln, KS; brothers James (Laura) Knapp of Prairie Village, KS, Benedict Knapp of Shawnee, KS, and Thomas (life partner Juan Resto) of New York, NY; sisters Dr. Jane Knapp of Shawnee, KS, Mary (Mike) Harris of Bay St. Louis, MS, Lucy (Mike) Clifton of Augusta, KS, and Clara Knapp (husband Steve Thompson) of Shawnee, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation is 1-7:00 P.M. Friday, August 1, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, KS. Family will greet friends 6-7:00 P.M., with Rosary at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral Mass will be at 8:00 A.M. Saturday, August 2, at St. Patricks Church, Lincoln, KS. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 A.M. at Lincoln Junior Senior High School with interment at St. Patricks Cemetery.

Current and former scouts are requested to wear a piece of scout uniform and sit in designated seating with other scouts at the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 90 in care of the Lincoln Lions Club.
